News from Acol Parish Council
The latest Saturday Coffee, Cakes and Chat afternoon, on 29th March was a great success.
Thanks to all contributors – the cakes were to die for! Look-out for the next event towards the end of May.
Cllr. Kate Ruranski met with David Whitehead, Farm Manager at Quex Park, to agree the next stage in the Pathway from Acol to Quex. David was quite happy to keep a strip between the crop and the hedge clear. It is already a well-worn pathway, and he commented that it was good to see several people taking advantage of it whilst they were there. David would put an indicator at the top of the first field to encourage people to walk around the back of the houses and yard. (i.e. Not in the roadway or through the private alleyway around the back of the houses.) He has asked the groundworks team in Quex to run their tractor and mower along the length of the route. The grass along the track should with time regenerate and David saw little point in sowing any grass seed as the path is so well used it would be difficult to establish.
Clearly, David could not guarantee what will happen to this route once the building of new roads and roundabouts starts in the threatened development but, in the meantime, he hoped the people of Acol would make the most of the pathway and enjoy a safe passage to Quex and beyond.
Many thanks on behalf of us all to Kate and David.
The response from the Police & Crime Commissioner’s Office to our complaint about the use of Speedwatch data to obstruct our ambition for the 20-mph zone was extremely disappointing and didn’t address any of the points made. I have therefore written again asking to interview him personally or for him to provide a statement for publication answering several questions arising from our experience.
Meantime, as I write this report the further survey undertaken by KCC Highways resulted in a new proposal from KCC Highways for a 20-mph Speed Zone in Acol (on the Acol PC website at Proposed 20-mph Speed Zone - Acol Parish Council - Acol Parish Council, Acol, Birchington ) and we are in the midst of collecting community feedback at KCC’s request. This has so far been overwhelmingly supportive, although all concerns, including those about the non-inclusion of Margate Hill, are also being noted and will be fed-back to the Highways Team. The full survey results will be available on the website by the time you read this.
The next Parish Council meeting will be on Thursday 19th June at 7.30 pm in The Village Hall.
