News from Acol Parish Council

KCC has appointed a new Community Warden – Gary Groombridge – for Thanet Villages. Gary is currently undergoing training and is expected to attend upcoming meetings to discuss how he can support our communities.

At a recent meeting in Acol Village Hall, representatives of the Parish Councils from Acol, Birchington, Cliffsend, Manston, Minster, Monkton, and St. Nicholas-at-Wade with Sarre met to discuss working together on their Community Resilience Plans, with appropriate linkage to Thanet District Council’s Emergency Plan. A further meeting will be attended by members of the Kent Community Resilience Team and TDC’s Emergency Planning Officer. The expectation is that Community Resilience Plans, whilst being supported by their Parish Councils, will be community led, and we will therefore be seeking volunteers to join our teams in the coming weeks.

It was reported, in last September’s Acol Village Voice, that contributions to the Acol Village Hall Support Fund (200 Club), which was established many years ago to help support the Hall’s funding, had dwindled. Winners are now drawn quarterly with a first prize of £60 and a second prize of £30. Villagers were requested to consider paying online, either quarterly (£3 per entry) or annually (£12 per entry), direct to the Village Hall Bank Account. At the Village Hall Management Committee’s March meeting, contributions remained low, but it was agreed to maintain the fund for a further year and attempt to reinvigorate interest.

The bank details are as follows; please add your name as reference: Acol Village Hall Management Committee; Sort Code 40-32-02; A/C No. 31339494.

The Village Hall Management Committee’s next meeting, in the Village Hall on Monday 14th April at 7.00 pm, will be its Annual General Meeting. All villagers are cordially invited to attend.

The February meeting of the Parish Council supported my decision, as Speedwatch Coordinator, to suspend the operation of Speedwatch in Acol – as reported last month – and I have now written on its behalf to complain to the Police and Crime Commissioner. The letter is posted on the Acol PC website, together with the meeting minutes. Meantime, a further survey of traffic speed through Acol was conducted in January and we await its results and how they may support our case for a 20-mph village speed zone.

The next Parish Council meetings will be on Thursday 17th April at 7.30 pm in The Village Hall. These will be the Annual Parish Meeting & Annual Meeting of The Parish Council. All residents are warmly invited to attend.
